AVK promoting sustainable solutions in the United States

In September 2016, AVK attended a delegation visit to the US, headed by the Danish Crown Prince Couple under the headline ”Sustainability” 05-10-2016

The AVK Group recognizes sustainability as a factor of vital importance, and as part of AVK’s proactive approach to minimizing its environmental impact and working for a sustainable future, AVK joined forces with 58 other innovative Danish companies and visited Washington DC arranged by the Danish embassy.

Water was on the agenda on Wednesday where AVK attended the session at the George Washington University in the Jacob Bruns Law Library. A MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) between Copenhagen and Washington was signed titled ”Washington DC/Copenhagen collaborations & Danish Sustainability Solutions”. In the US, topics regarding water challenges continue to be of significant public interest and concern. Meanwhile, in Denmark, there has been a remarkable level of innovation in the water and wastewater sector. This innovation has been made possible via a successful combination of innovative utilities, ingenious water technology companies, and sustainable legislation from the Danish authorities. This collaborative effort has enabled progress in three important areas: water resource management for sustainability, efficient water distribution, water conservation, and energy neutral water management. For example, HOFOR water utility in Copenhagen operates with a non-revenue water rate of as low as 4 to 6%, and Lynetten wastewater treatment plant produces 260% more energy than the plant itself uses. The MoU gives Danish companies the opportunity to promote their solutions focusing on energy production and/or reduction of energy consumption. Including minimizing leakages in the distribution network and to save both energy, as well as generate income from water that earlier was “lost”.

Following AVK’s successful trip to President Obama’s Water Summit back in March 2016, where the LEGO-model Waterville was presented, AVK got a chance to present their capabilities at the House of Representatives on Wednesday afternoon.

The 3 congress members, Whip Hoyer, Dan Lipinski, and John J. Duncan participated at the event where His Royal Highness, Prince Frederik, held an opening speech followed by Esben Lunde Larsen’s speech (Danish Minister of the Environment). Esben Lunde Larsen portrayed the Danish water expertise and the opportunities for a cooperation between American utilities and Danish companies. AVK highlighted that even though the know-how and services may be Danish, an investment in AVK solutions is just as much an investment in American work spaces, as AVK acts globally but commits locally.
