Opening of Water Solution Centre

Starting off this month by reaching the devastating milestone of Overshoot Day, where the resources intended for our 2018 use are officially already consumed, we’re closing in on the end on a more hopeful, solution-oriented note 24-08-2018

Water challenges and global goals
Water. The indispensable centre of sustainable and socio-economic development, and of the production of vital resources such as food and energy. Basically, the heart of human survival.

With this yearly overshoot day reminding us that we need to learn how to do more with less, new studies also reveal that we are not on track with reaching our shared, global deadline of obtaining clean water and sanitation for all by 2030. This calls for more attention on water and sanitation issues in the global political agenda, and on even more efficient and sustainable solutions to water distribution and wastewater management.

In the EU alone, up to 40 % of water is wasted from the well to the consumer. Some cities use as much as 40 % of the total energy consumption on handling and treating water, while 80 % of wastewater runs untreated into the natural environment damaging streams, rivers, lakes and seas. Indeed, the water crisis seems insurmountable at times. To handle these problems, it is essential that we all look at the solutions we have and our responsibility to make them available where they are most needed. The UN Sustainable Development Goals have the potential to make the free market forces pull towards a better world. In fact, it just might be the only way for us to afford to make a difference that counts.

Opening of innovation hub for water solutions
In Denmark, we have many of the solutions needed to solve these issues, and therefore we have an obligation to act. Today, August 24, we are officially introducing a Water Solution Centre, AquaGlobe, in Skanderborg, Denmark in association with the local supply company Skanderborg Vandforsyning and a number of other local actors in the water industry. Here we are bringing together our knowledge, ideas and advanced technologies, and the centre will create value by acting as a hub for value-creating collaborations, communication of knowledge and for the flourishing of new, innovative solutions to global water threads such as water shortage, pollution and flooding.

Furthermore, the centre will function as a gathering point for the local community, as it welcomes visitors of all ages to gain knowledge about the water cycle, climate protection and much more – all through fun and engaging activities.
