Science Day at AVK
Yesterday, we joined the national campaign “Science Day” which aims to promote career opportunities within the educational fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). 60 students from a nearby school visited us for a day full of career presentations, fun and learnings at our AVK Academy and Visitor Centre. 02-10-2025
To kick off the day, the students were introduced to AVK, our products, and how make a difference in the world by our Public Affairs manager, Michael Ramlau Hansen.
Why choose a career within STEM?
At AVK, we have a broad and differentiated group of employees, where many of them have an educational background and/or lots of experience within the fields of STEM.
Therefore, naturally, we invited some of them to give a short presentation about themselves, their background and their daily work life here at AVK, to inspire and encourage the young people to consider a future within these fields.
First, they had the pleasure of meeting Rasmus who works at AVK Gummi, where the rubber material for our many different valves and hydrants is developed and produced. Rasmus gave insights into the many different variants of rubber that is used in well-known products in our society, and how complex it is to work out the exact rubber type needed in e.g. products that are i direct contact with drinking water.
They also got to meet Andreas, a trainee from our Business Development department, who gave insights into his daily work with communicating about our AVK Smart Water solutions, which enables data-driven management of the water distribution network.
Andreas also took the students for a show-and-tell tour in our showlab, where it is possible to see demonstrations of how our smart devices work “in action”.

Brainstorming about real-life water challenges
After the career presentations and tour, the students went for an interactive product hunt in our showroom full of valves and hydrants.
Finally, to bring the students’ learnings “to life”, we ended the visit with a more practical challenge, where they should come up with a feasible, sustainable solution in the form of either:
- A safe water supply solution, that takes flooding, dry periods and pollution into account
- A model that describes how to avoid pollution of lakes and rivers when discharging wastewater
- A circular system that takes advantage of water’s natural journey through society
We hope we have inspired the students, and that they have learned a thing or two about water, valves, and global challenges, and how they can be overcome through the use of proper water management solutions.

What is Science Day?
The campaign is a yearly event which aims to inspire more young people to choose an education in the field of science, technology, engineering and math. It is established by The House of Natural Sciences (Danish: Naturvidenskabernes Hus) which is a private, non-profit organisation that bridges the gap between schools and companies and support teachers in the development of inspiring and application-oriented teaching.
